MONEY MAKE’M SMILE


a play especially written for high school and university audiences is presented by Her Story Theater’s Educational Performances and Outreach Program in association with Victory Gardens Theater Arts Education. Those not in school can still learn a thing or two by attending this world premiere about sex trafficking, gender roles and choice.


MONEY MAKE’M SMILE

is the journey of Butterfly Jackson and Robert Whitmore whose lives cross paths in the world of sex trafficking, end tragically but for a mistaken interception by Fate and Destiny. Given another chance, starting from birth, they revisit their former lives, watching themselves with family, friends, new loves and making choices that would lead to their ultimate demise. Can they make a choice that leads them down a new path? Can they create change? Or are they doomed to repeat their mistakes?  A journey through space and time. “Funny, unique, poignant, powerful…MONEY MAKE’M SMILE explores the world of sex trafficking, gender roles, vulnerability, human transformation or not…


WHO SHOULD SEE THIS SHOW

We invite Chicago Public School High School students as well as 7th and 8th grade students to join us. This show is for you. Based on interviews of urban and suburban young people, it speaks to issues going on in your schools, neighborhoods and communities. It speaks to the reason so many young people are being trafficked. Unaware, uninformed invites troubled situations…MONEY MAKE’M SMILE gives answers, educates, builds awareness and gets students pro active in stopping this epidemic. It’s funny, entertaining, age appropriate and powerfully moving live theater.
Teachers, counselors and administrators should also see this show. A Study Guide will be made available for teachers prior to the show and will include suggestions for follow-up activities.


WHY

MONEY MAKE’M SMILE targets sex trafficking and gender relationships;

  • to ignite ideas beyond the everyday acceptance societal norms;
  • to connect the issues of trafficking to our past and present;
  • to evolve consciousness of our audience members;
  • to provoke deeper conversation on self vs society; human worth vs monetary value and empathy vs self involvement.
  • to generate a pro active attitude and becoming part of the solution.

WHERE

MONEY MAKE’M SMILE will be performed at Victory Garden’s Zacek-McVey Theater seating 250. Busing may be required for some schools. It is located at 2433 N. Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60614 Fullerton El is one block away from theater, close proximity to Lake Shore Drive.
